We Need Nodes on Highways

Liz traveled to Detroit for robot arm work while the Meshtastic project, a meme-propaganda repo and community classes carried on.

Liz spent the week on a semi-vacation, semi-work trip, with a Detroit visit planned for robot arm work. She stayed on for scheduled classes and Job Search, apart from Thursday.

The Meshtastic effort needed nodes along major highways. The class, free and open to remote attendees, was based at Burning Man's offices in San Francisco, and anyone who couldn't get a chipset was asked to get in touch. The group also began an external security review of the Meshtastic and ATAK-Civ code and asked for volunteers.

Slippy Street and Freak Scene were highlighted again. The resistance repo was collecting memes, both relatable hooks and propaganda, to feed some agitprop bots and to document the kinds of meme propaganda people have been exposed to. CyberDefense covered communications security protocols, and Anadon's Python Development class continued.

2/9/2025 Multiverse Report

Multiverse Crew-

I am on a semi-vacation, semi-work trip! I'll reveal my location after I leave. I'll be in Detroit next week doing Robot Arm Things You Will See On The Internet. I'll also be a little out of touch this week, but I'll still be here for all scheduled classes and Job Search- the last session on Thursday though, I'll be out.

The resistance continues. Here's what we did last week & recently:

CJ Trowbridge and I settled on a secure chipset and kit for setting up a Meshtastic node. If you'd like to help out, purchase one of those to run. We need them along major highways. We'll be running the class out of Burning Man's offices in San Francisco, but you will be able to join virtually. This will be a completely free class, please reach out if you can't acquire a chipset. We're also reviewing all the Meshtastic and ATAK-Civ code over the next few weeks as part of an external security review. Want to help? Drop me a line.

Is your street sometimes... slippery? Want to keep track of and alert your neighbors when there's a fall risk? Are we talking about... ice? Icy roads are so dangerous. Anyway, we made a tool for that. Thanks Gerry. Fork this to run a local copy in case this is deleted. (Not helpful in areas where Stingrays operate but very helpful near your home in case of Icy Weather which I hear may be year round.)

Solarpunk Standup is on - this is first assembly. Bring your problems, needs, and we'll get the community problem solving.

Job Search / Brandup Standup will be from 9am - 10am Pacific. This is where you'll work on either search for jobs (literally apply to jobs, put in proposals, pitch contracts, do outbound emails), or your personal brand (literally the stuff like your website, social media post, mass communications, etc). It is split into two simultaneous sessions- Branding, run by Chris, and Search, run by Liz. If you want to be financially independent in tumultuous times, you'll want to make sure to attend this.

CyberDefense Protocols For The Resistance is on Thursday at 2pm. This is a community class. We'll discuss Communications Security Protocols, for determining how to communicate securely about what, and for how long.

Contribute

Please contribute to the resistance repo. We are making some agitprop bots, please contribute propaganda. We need both relatable memes (hooks) and propaganda memes. This will also serve as a decent collection of the kinds of meme propaganda we've been exposed to.

Python Development will continue, and will be at 8am Pacific on Thursday, run by Anadon. This is also a Community Class.

Don't forget to join us on Matrix, where we'll stay tight-knit and coordinated, run mutual aid groups, and keep everyone safe. This is going to be a rough few years. Let's keep each other safe and sane.
